Teaching and Mentorship

20180410_090510_edited_edited.jpg

Throughout my academic career, I have had many opportunities to

teach and to develop my own teaching and mentoring style.

I have been Instructor of Record for Introduction to Psychology,

Social Psychology, Sensation & Perception, Psychology and Law and

will be teaching Cognition (Sp2021) at the undergraduate level.

At the graduate level, I have taught Advanced Social Psychology

(Master's) and Cognitive & Affective Bases of Behavior (Doctoral).

These classes have ranged in size from 16 to 350 students. I believe that

students learn best when they are engaged and learning about how the

course material relates to their every day lives. I am incredibly passionate

about sharing that psychology is something that is present in our daily

lives. I enjoy challenging them to think critically about how the principles

that we talk about in class appear in our daily lives. I have also been

invited to give talks pertaining to psychology and law to various

programs such as the Duke Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP).

I have immensely enjoyed these experiences and am excited to share

the wonderful world of psychology (whether it is intro, social, cognition,

etc.) with future students.

In addition to teaching, another tremendously rewarding

experience has been my ability to work closely and advise

undergraduates as they work toward their professional goals.

It has been my pleasure to work closely with students in the lab

and introduce them to the thrill of answering a question about an interesting phenomenon and seeing that result through the idea generation, data collection and analysis, and ultimately presenting their research at local, regional, and national conferences. I am immensely proud of my students and they have gone on to be successful in both industry as well as getting into respected graduate programs as well. This is truly one of the most rewarding areas within my academic career and I am excited to continue to work closely with students in this regard.
